Expanding to a second location will allow a construction company to meet more of the demand for affordable housing.
Their new location is in Mulgrave, while they began building onsite and offsite modular homes out of Arichat.
BRELA Homes Project Manager, Jeremey Carroll shares how their new second location will help people achieve home ownership at a reduced cost.
“It allows us to increase capacity, so there’s significant demand now for housing, especially affordable housing, and due to the demand and the need in our communities, we needed to increase capacity to meet that,” he acknowledged.
“Across the country, we’re challenged with affordable housing, especially energy efficient and accessible housing, so doing it here in our backyard is what BRELA is focussed on. It’s priority for us, allowing people that opportunity to have access to affordable housing.”
They developed 52 units in their first two years.
Their expansion will allow them to make about 40 modular units per year, estimated Carroll.
He says BRELA Homes acquired an existing infrastructure on Mill Street and did a complete overhaul renovation to upgrade to the facility and started construction there a few weeks ago.
They primarily serve the Quad Counties and have also had projects in Sydney and the HRM.
“[Affordable housing] is not a want anymore. It’s a need for our community,” he expressed.
The name BRELA is a combination of Carroll’s business partner and wife’s first names, Brianne and Kayla.
