Earlier this month a strange ice rescue occurred in Pictou County. Police were called on March 5th about a small car stuck in the ice on the Northumberland Strait, not just near the shore but three kilometres out. Apparently the driver of the car and a friend were seen walking away from the vehicle and told police that they got stuck out there.
The River John Fire Department along with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Department of Natural Resources were able to flip the Hyundai over onto its roof and slide it back across the ice by towing it with snowmobiles back to shore.
There is not much info about why someone would drive three kilometres onto sea ice in a car but check out the pics below!
