A man was found in the water near Melmerby Beach after he disappeared about 6 hours earlier.
Around 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the RCMP, along with EHS, firefighters, the Coast Guard and rescue teams with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) responded to a call about a person in the ocean near the 6500 block of Little Harbour Road, Northeast of New Glasgow.
Aircraft were seen dropping parachute flares over the water to help light the area, and a rigid-hull inflatable boat from the Canadian Coast Guard was also deployed from Pictou.
Photos and posts shared online suggest the response was focused off the shoreline near Melmerby Beach.
According to the RCMP, the rescue crews from the JRCC found a 38-year-old from New Glasgow in the water at about 2:20 a.m., more than six hours after the initial call.
Police say the man was taken to a hospital for assessment.
