Several stores and restaurants in Halifax are wrestling with some hardships ahead of the holiday season.
The Chick ‘N Chill restaurant in Dartmouth is afraid for the safety of their employees.
Their propane tank was tampered with a few months ago, and the whole restaurant smelled like propane.
On Tuesday, it happened again for the third time.
Co-owner Janna Mercado says she is a registered nurse and went to work crying on on Tuesday because she terrified the restaurant staff might get hurt.
“My staff have kids, you know, and I’m a mom too, so it drives me nuts, thinking what could have worse happened? And we’re not bad people. We work hard to put up this business. On some days, our customers doesn’t have money, we would even give free food,” said Mercado.
“I don’t understand why people would do something like that to us. We’re not bad people to have enemies at all.”
She says their newly installed security cameras were suspiciously not working right at the time.
She said they reached out to police for help, and a spokesperson for Halifax Regional Police confirmed they got the report.
Meanwhile, across the bridge in Halifax, two more local businesses are also dealing with theft and vandalism.
In Fairview, The Easy Street Diner had the construction of their driveway vandalized, according to a social media post.
Then $3,000 worth of clothes was stolen from the Vintage Mansion in downtown Halifax, according to another post.
Video of the alleged incident shows a woman putting on multiple jackets and then sticking her tongue out at the security camera.
The store stays the impact theft has on the small business community is so disappointing.
