How the grocery rebate works
Instead of a separate program, the grocery rebate will be delivered through higher GST credit payments. This means:
- Payments will increase by about 25%
- A one‑time top‑up is also expected later this year
- Payments will be automatic
- There is no application required
Who is eligible?
Anyone who already qualifies for the GST/HST credit could benefit.
How much money could people get?
Federal estimates suggest:
- Up to $400 more this year for a low‑income single person
- Up to $800 more for a couple with two children
Actual amounts will depend on income and household size.
