Inverness County could soon have two provincial ridings.
One would be called ‘Cheticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay,’ and the other ‘Inverness-We-koqma’q.’
An electoral boundaries commission made the recommendation in a final report to the province.
They were appointed in April to provide effective representation of the Acadian region of Cheticamp and area.
This would increase the number of seats in the legislature by one to 56.
The last review took place in 2019, but the Supreme Court ruled the previous commission violated charter rights by not creating a district for Cheticamp.
The province has to vote on the recommendation.
