The head of the wildlife association in Nova Scotia is defending the province’s decision to cancel Groundhog Day events after our third Sunday snowstorm in a row.
Director of Wildlife Resources, Andrew Boyne says the decision is never easy, but it came down to public safety.
“No one’s ever really happy. But also, for people trying to get to the park, I think the fact that there were, I think, four cars off the road at the Shubenacadie exit, validated our decision,” says Boyne.
“We’ve been doing this since late 1980’s and Nova Scotian’s love it. It’s clearly not science based but it’s fun.”

Although Sam has been offering her predictions for decades, she now has some friendly competition.
Lucy the Lobster in Barrington, Nova Scotia, is now in the game.
Boyne says they need more time to see how Lucy does with her predictions.
“I think Lucy’s too early to tell how good she is. It’s only been a few years yet. So, we don’t feel intimidated, just yet,” adds Boyne.
