Do you have any good condition prom dresses you’d like others to enjoy?
Youth Support Worker, Chelsea Sylliboy began collecting them after a principal at the local high school posted that there were a couple girls looking for dresses last year.
She tells us she has already collected 19 dresses last year and 71 dresses this year for the cause.
Anyone in need is welcome to pick one out.
“In today’s economy especially, the cost for a prom dress is a barrier that prevents them from attending this once in a lifetime event, and not just my community…it goes past my community. It goes to every community,” expressed Sylliboy.
“I just thought, you know, starting this program would change that reality for many girls. I’m just trying to provide an opportunity for girls to experience prom with confidence and joy, especially where they cannot afford their own.”
She began by buying good condition dresses for low prices on Facebook Marketplace and is now also taking donations.
Dresses can be dropped off or picked up at the Eskasoni ACCESS Youth Space from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
