The StFX Health Society is hosting a conference on women’s health on Friday evening and Saturday.
This year’s topic is Gender and Health: A Conference Focused on Women’s Health and Equitable Access to Care.
Twin sisters Kate and Olivia Harding are this year’s Co-Conference Leads with hopes to publicize the inequalities and systematic barriers women face in healthcare.
“Women’s health is often a subject that can be a bit taboo and just isn’t openly discussed,” expressed Kate.
“So, we’re hoping that by hosting this conference and by leading these conversations, women’s health will be more on the table and something that is hopefully more accessible to people after this weekend and after everything they take away.”
Kate says they chose this topic as it’s a subject they’re both very passionate that’s often underrepresented, underfunded, and under researched.
“There’s so many people who can learn and benefit from this important topic and be through the collaborative activities, and the wide range of speakers, we want to bring people together to network and meet each other, work together, and open and foster a positive conversation around women’s health,” shared Olivia.
Speakers will include clinicians, gynecologists, specialists, professors and community health leaders.
“They will talk about affordable access to contraceptives, different issues that are unique from like how we can use food to heal from our naturopathic doctor [to] different conditions that predominantly affect women, like learning about the root causes of endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS),” explained Olivia.
Everyone including community members, healthcare providers, students and faculty are invited to attend this event.
