The emergency department at a hospital in the Quad Counties will close its doors overnight.
The ER at Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso will only be open during the day as of Sunday; the new hours will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Officials say the reason for the overnight closure is a lack of nurses at the hospital.
They say admission to the hospital’s six inpatient beds will also be temporarily suspended, since there will be no overnight nursing coverage.
Officials say 90 percent of emergency department visits to Canso’s hospital were during the day in the previous 12 months.
