Whycocomagh Summer Festival

Situated at the head of the Bras d'Or Lakes, Whycocomagh is an ideal location for water activities, boat tours and ceilidhs, featuring traditional Scottish and Mi'kmaq talent. 

Join us for ceilidhs, milling frolic, dances, canoe races, ball, hockey, soccer tournaments, street fair, and concert during the Whycocomagh Summer Festival.

MONDAY JULY 16TH:

10-12 Noon: Gaelic Language Workshop for all ages; Cameron Hall Goodwill donation.

7:00 pm: Twist and Shake:  Ease into the week with yoga stretches with Kelly; relax to a 1973 soundtrack; back deck at the Waterfront Centre; enjoy a healthy shake as the sun sets. $10.00 includes shake; students $5.00.

TUESDAY JULY 17TH:

10-12 Noon: Gaelic Language Workshop for all ages; Cameron Hall; Goodwill donation.

10:00-12:00 noon: Crib Tournament; Join the walking gang at the Whycocomagh Waterfront Centre; Goodwill offering.

12:00-3:00: Public Swim: Fair Isle Motel; parental supervision required for 12 & under; no lifeguard/washroom facilities

6:30 pm: Family Hike on TCT off Johnson Lane(Gather at Fire Hall). Exit at MacInnis Road then keep on to Skye River Trail. After hike enjoy a Cape Breton Style Campfire Singalong behind Waterfront Centre - “Along the Shores of Hogoma”. All welcome; free

July 17-18 from 2:00-5:00 and 6:00-9:00 pm: Silent Auction at the St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Hall; Pick-up - July 19th.

WEDNESDAY JULY 18TH:

10 am-1pm:  Gaelic Workshop at the Cameron Hall, free admission.

1:30-2:00: Water Blaster; Whycocomagh Provincial Park. Bring your own water gun/towel. Younger children require a guardian. no Charge.

2:00-4:00: Strawberry Shortcake  Festival; Cameron Hall; $5.00

8:00-10:00 pm - Family Square Dance; Tribute Night For Burton MacIntyre;   Waterfront Centre; Admission $5.00 or $20.00 per family.

THURSDAY JULY 19TH:

10-12 Noon: Gaelic Language Workshop for all ages; Cameron Hall; goodwill donation.

12:00 - 3:00 pm: Public Swim: Fair Isle Motel; parental supervision required for 12 & under; no lifeguard /washroom facilities; all welcome.

6:00 -8:00 pm: Waterfront Activities; Waterfront Centre featuring male & female doubles canoe races, barbecue, food truck, tug of war, washers, dunk station, children’s play area.

7:00 pm: Jam Session at Centre. $5 adm. All musicians welcome.

FRIDAY JULY 20TH: 

11:00 am:  Golf Tournament  - Baddeck Forks; includes barbecued steak dinner at Waterfront Centre:  $75 per individual, or $300 per team. 

1:30-3:30 pm: Gaelic Language Workshop for all ages; Cameron Hall;; goodwill donation.

3:00-4:00: Teddy Bear Picnic; Whycocomagh Provincial Park; rain Why Fire Hall; all bears welcome, please bring your own people; Theme: “Its a Bear Affair; no charge.

7:00 pm:  Milling Frolic Cameron Hall; admission $7.00;  Under 12 free.

7:30-9:30 pm: Chase the Ace, Whycocomagh Fire Department.

Pub Night Whycocomagh Fire Department; admission $10; 19+;

9:00 am: 5K Burton MacIntyre Fun Run: location: from Skye Glen Hall; register at hall between 8 & 9 am; $20 adults, $10 children;

12:00 Noon: PARADE; theme: Everything Old is New Again floats to line up at Whycocomagh School at 11:30 am; .immediately following the parade ending: Village Street Fair on the Waterfront

across from Presbyterian Church (all ages).  Celebrate ‘What’s Old is New Again,” including some past traditions  which began in 1973 at MacQueen’s Campground: BBQ, games, music by L’Arche Cape Breton, visit by Annie and Sarah, arm wrestling, washer toss, food truck, dunk station, face painting, vendors and more.

3:00-5:00 - Book Launch of “Never Speak of This Again” by Brenda Dunphy. Music, story telling & reading; Presentation  of WW1 Quilt  signed by community in 1915 as dedicated to soldiers heading off toYpres and other battles. A true reflection of our past. Waterfront Centre; All welcome.

7:00-9:30: Craft Beer Fest; 19+, Gov’t Id’s.  Waterfront Centre; $20.00 admission; includes Souvenir Glass. Food trucks.
