Sunday, August 12:
2:00pm: 42nd Annual Seamen’s Memorial Service
Sponsored by the Canso Lions Club. Refreshments and snacks to follow at the Canso Lions Club. Rain location is the Star of the Sea Church.

7:00pm Star of the Sea Parish Bingo at the Canso Hazel Hill Fire Hall

Monday, August 13:
10:00am Teddy Bear’s Picnic: Storytime and Pony Rides at the Canso Library sponsored by ECRL Canso Branch and ECYA. Contact Janet at 902-366-2955 for more information.

1:00pm Family Sand Sculpture Contest
Black Duck Cove Beach, Little Dover, sponsored by ECYA. Theme will be announced at contest start. No pre-registration necessary.

3:00pm Volleyball Tournament
At Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy Gymnasium, ages 16+, cost is $20 per team of four. Pre-register by calling Ray or Marie @902-366-2559 by August 8th. Latecomers will not be able to participate. Cash prizes. Sponsored by ECYA.

At the Canso Community Pool courtesy of MODG Recreation

Wednesday, August 15:
10:00am 20th Annual Kaila Feltmate Memorial Bike Run
Starts with bike rodeo at the Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy parking lot. All participants must pre-register by contacting Marie at the ECYA Youth Centre @902-366-2559. Donations will be accepted at the Eastern Memorial Hospital-Palliative Care Unit in memory of Kaila. Run ends with a barbecue for participants at the Canso RCMP Detachment. Sponsored by the RCMP.

7:00-9:00pm Open House at the ECYA Youth Centre 20 Telegraph Street, Canso. Come on in and see what we’re about! Everyone welcome! 
7:00-8:00pm Open Mic Café for grades P-6 
8:00-9:00pm Open Mic Café for Teens

9:00-10:00pm Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag in Sailor’s Rest Park for ages 13-18. No pre-registration necessary. Sponsored by ECYA.

Thursday, August 16:
10:30am Scavenger Hunt Pick up your list at the ECYA Youth Centre and end at the Stanfest concession area. No cars allowed! Ages 12 and under. Sponsored by ECYA.

12:00pm Canso and Area Community Events Association Free Family Barbecue at the Stanfest Concession area

1:00pm ECYA Youth Field Games at the Canso Sportsplex Ages 12 and under. The Scott George Memorial Award will be presented. Sponsored by C&A Automotive Ltd.

4:00-6:00pm St. Paul’s United Church Bean and Chili Supper All are welcome!

8:00-10:00pm ‘Jaws’ Movie Night at the Canso Community Pool for Teens, $5 admission, sponsored by ECYA and MODG Recreation

Friday, August 17:
11:30am Build-a-Cardboard-Canoe Race at the Canso Community Pool for ages 10-14. All materials provided. Participants work in pairs. Sponsored by ECYA and MODG Recreation. Pre-register by Monday, August 6th by calling 902-366-2559.

1:00pm Youth Swim Races at the Canso Community Pool Ages 5+ No pre-registration necessary. Sponsored by ECYA and MODG Recreation.

1:00pm Canso Curling Club Washer Toss Tournament (19+) at the Canso Marina. $10 per person. Pre-register by contacting Amanda at 902-870-7656. Food by ‘Dru Let the Dogs Out’ on sale.

5:00pm Midway opens at the Canso Waterfront games of chance, food concessions, artist sales tent, and more! Note the Fanning Home and School Association will be holding even split draws at the midway in support of playground upgrades and equipment at the school. The Canso Regatta Midway supports local non-profit organizations from Canso and area communities! Come out and show your support!

6:00pm 25th Kenny Richards Memorial Ball Tournament at the Robert Noble Memorial Ball Fields. Come one come all.

6:00-9:00pm Canso Regatta Hootenanny (19+) with local musicians on the Canso Waterfront

9:00pm Fireworks Display on the Canso Waterfront (display will begin shortly after dusk)

10:00pm-2:00am Live music at AJ’s Pub featuring Robert Parker, George Hart and friends

Saturday, August 18:
9:00am 16th Annual Bernie Long Road Race Contact Summer Schrader at 902-870-2182. Pre-register with payment by August 1st. You must be prepaid to receive a shirt! No extra shirts and no shirts printed after the August 1st deadline. Sponsored by the Canso and Area Community Events Association and Canso Cooperative Ltd.

11:00am Canso Regatta Street Parade! Featuring the wonderful Clan Thompson Pipe Band and Pleasant Valley (Pictou Co.) Draft Horses, this year’s regatta parade aims to please! No theme this year so all participants are urged to use your imaginations and entertain us! Cart rides with the horses are available immediately after the parade (see them near the Canso Arena parking lot.) Parade judging and line up starts at the Canso Lions Club at 10:00am.

12:00pm Canso Regatta Midway re-opens games of chance, food concessions, artist sales tent and more!

12:00pm Boat Races at Whitman’s Wharf with special guests from the racing speedboat circuit. Dory, lobster pot haul and speed boat races. All participants must pre-register before races begin. Trophies will be awarded on Whitman’s Wharf after the races.

All racers must pre-register and sign a waiver on Friday evening at the midway/hootenanny from 5 - 8 pm or on Saturday on Whitman's Wharf from 10 - 11:30. The regatta committee is looking forward to lots of participants in this year's races.

 

12:30-2:00pm Family Concert under the Big Tent on the Canso Waterfront with local musicians

10:00pm-2:00am Adult Dance at the Canso and Area Arena (19+) Music by Charlie Marr, cost $8, ages 19+. IDs may be requested.

Sunday, August 19:
9:00am-11:00am Canso and Area Arena Community Breakfast scrambled eggs, sausage, toast, your choice of hot beverage, $8

10:00am-12:00pm Poker Rally Starts and finishes at the Canso Marina. All stops accessible by land or water. All hands must be handed in at 11:45am. 5$ per hand. 50/50 will be sold. For more information contact Kerri Rhynold@ 902-366-3470. Sponsored by the Canso and Area Minor Hockey Association
