A state of emergency has been declared in the Eskasoni First Nation.
Chief Leroy Denny and councillors made the announcement following a band council meeting Sunday.
They say their residents have a very high rate of chronic health conditions, and are considered a vulnerable population.
Band officials say a mandatory stay home order is in place for all residents and community members, with the exception of authorized and essential personnel.
They say checkpoints will be set up at each entry point into the community, and non-residents who provide an essential service will need to show a band-issued identification badge to be allowed inside.
A 6 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew starts Monday; you can read the full release here.
