The president of Port Hawkesbury’s food bank says it’s as important as ever- if not more important- to donate.
Larry Evans says they expect a jump in need because of how many people are out of work due to COVID-19.
Evans told The Hawk Morning Show there are challenges providing the service while still obeying public health restrictions.
“It’s not easy to do the work that has to be done at the food bank with social distancing requirements and everything else,” he says. “Our volunteers are respective of each others’ situations, and are doing all the right things.”
Evans says food bank volunteers are working hard so they can keep helping people.
He says they’re taking extra precautions to protect their volunteers and clients from COVID-19.
Evans says they’re enforcing physical distancing of six feet and only allowing one client into the food bank at one time.
