The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic means Easter masses will be celebrated a little differently this time around.
Donald MacGillivray, the pastor at St. Ninians Cathedral Parish in Antigonish and the spokesperson for the Diocese of Antigonish, says many services will be online.
MacGillivray tells The Hawk it’s one of the most important times on the Catholic calendar, so they want to make sure as many people as possible can participate virtually.
“The wonderful celebration of Easter is about hope,” he says. “The hope that God is with us, the hope that we can get from our faith that God will be journeying with us as we move through difficult times.”
MacGillivray says many of their pastors will conduct services through social media.
He says they’ve asked pastors to start at the same time throughout the diocese, with Holy Thursday celebrated at 7 p.m., Good Friday at the traditional 3 p.m. time, and the Easter Vigil service in the evening Saturday.
