The warden of Antigonish Co. says he accepts government direction to hold municipal elections this fall.
Owen McCarron says it’s important to trust public health decisions.
He says he understand running a campaign and election will be challenging, but not impossible.
McCarron says COVID-19 restrictions mean they must consider options they’ve dismissed in the past, and that includes online voting.
“It’s certainly something that makes you stop and consider other options,” he says. “At the end of the day we want to give options to our public that reflect the easiest and safest ways for people to vote.”
McCarron says there isn’t a plan for online voting yet, but they’re keeping all options on the table.
He says they’ve already started preliminary planning for their October 17 election date in anticipation of the decision.
