Ultimate Online Nova Scotia Kitchen Party creator Heather Thomson says it started as a way to combat all the social media negativity surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thomson says one morning she was scrolling through Facebook when she was hit with an overwhelming sense of dread.
She says she just didn’t want to see all of the negativity anymore.
Thomson tells The Hawk’s East Coast Rising a video of a friend singing popped up.
“He was playing a song on his guitar and singing… as I listened to that, it literally calmed me and brought me some joy,” she says. “In that moment I just realized that I wanted to flood my Facebook with nothing but music.”
Thomson says that’s when she knew she needed to make the group.
She says now the group’s over 280,000 members post their performances for everyone to see.
Thomson says the group showcases the talent of musicians, young and old, of all skill levels, from all over the world.
