The mayor of Antigonish says town officials are in the process of re-opening two of their facilities.
Town hall closed as a result of COVID-19 back in March.
Laurie Boucher says they had already re-opened their skatepark, but it closed quickly after it became obvious public health and safety rules couldn’t be enforced.
Boucher tells The Hawk they don’t blame users, but every time someone checked, there were too many people not observing physical distancing.
“We knew people would be anxious to get on the skatepark,” she says. “Sometimes children don’t realize the severity of what’s going on around them.”
Boucher says they’re planning to re-open again, but not without a better plan to protect community health, which they hope to have soon.
She says their town office will re-open Monday, but with new protocols and physical barriers to help protect everyone.
“Council was adamant that our employees felt comfortable coming back to work,” she says “I think it’s very important that they do feel safe in their work environment.”
Boucher says they’ve made major changes, and it will be a lot like a retail or grocery store.
She says all visits beyond the front desk will require an appointment and a mask.
