Strait Area Transit will be back up and running Tuesday.
SAT shut down during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
SAT Chair John Dowling tells The Hawk they’ve been getting calls and emails about when they will restart all summer.
“It’s a vital service to the people of the Strait Area.”
Dowling says officials have been working hard on a reopening plan.
He says they needed to figure out how to provide the service safely, while following all provincial health guidelines.
“A lot of people have been isolated, of course, during COVID,” he says. “It’s important for people to get back out and be able to do their day-to-day business.”
Dowling says they needed to be confident the service wouldn’t spread the virus.
He says they’re starting with medical runs and smaller charters, but they’re looking to expand back to full service.
Dowling says there isn’t a timeline on a return to full service yet.
