COVID-19 has changed the face of poppy campaigns this year.
Rod Corbett, Poppy Chair for Port Hawkesbury Legion Branch 43, says collecting wreath donations is very similar to last year, but there is much less contact in that campaign already.
Corbett tells The Hawk it has had a much more significant impact on their poppy campaign.
“There’s going to be a lot fewer places to get a poppy, because of COVID restrictions, we’re putting them in places where we know we can have some measure of control over the contact, with the poppies, and cleanliness and that sort of thing,” he says. “There will be poppies out, but they’ll be a little bit harder to find.”
He says they must keep it up, raising money for veterans is more important than ever.
Corbett says the campaign kicked off Friday and runs until Remembrance Day.
