It was a different Remembrance Day in the Quad Counties- and right across the province.
COVID-19 changed the way we remembered Wednesday.
During the Port Hawkesbury ceremony, Gary Burns, the president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 43, said the reason for the day didn’t change.
“Let us pause to think of those of our comrades who- by sea, by land, and in the air- laid down their lives for their sovereign and country,” he said. “Their sacrifice will ever inspire us to labour on.”
Only 25 people were allowed to participate due to COVID-19 guidelines.
Sylvester MacInnis, who was one of the few to take part in person, said it’s still just as important as ever to hold these services.
“Let us keep in mind all those who have served and were lost, who are now serving, and those who have returned to their families, suffering from wounds both visible and invisible.”
The ceremony was broadcast live on radio and streamed live on Facebook.
The location shifted from the town’s cenotaph to the legion hall.
