People coming into the province from Newfoundland and Labrador must now isolate for 14 days.
Dr. Robert Strang, our province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, says it is in response to a massive jump in COVID-19 cases in that province.
Dr. Strang says they have been watching that province closely, and they made the decision after Newfoundland and Labrador Public Health officials announced 30 cases Monday.
“We’ve always acted quickly and necessarily when we’ve had to,” he says. “I think it’s important that now we impose the restriction.”
PEI is now the only province from which people can come into ours without isolating.
Dr. Strang says they continue to act to stop the potential spread of COVID-19 into our province.
“Like we said when we imposed a quarantine for New Brunswick, essential travel only to Newfoundland and Labrador at this time.”
Dr. Strang announced one new case of COVID-19 Monday, travel related in Central Zone, and a total of nine active infections in the province.
