The province has announced today that appointments for COVID-19 vaccination is now open for those in the 65 to 69 age range.
Premier Iain Rankin discussed the vaccine rollout at today’s briefing.
“We said we’d ramp up doses going in arms as supply from the federal government expanded and we’ve done so,” said Rankin. “We said we’d move through age groups weekly and we have done that too. We have built a vaccine program that is equitable, flexible and reliable, and our rollout is on track.”
Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang tempered expectations for vaccines and discussed supply.
“Everybody wants to get vaccinated and that’s a very good thing,” said Strang. “The reality is, however, that we still have limited supply. That supply is increasing and as it does we will be continuously adding new appointments into the system and getting vaccine into arms.”
Two new cases of COVID-19 in the province were announced today.
One is in the Northern Zone and is related to travel, the other is in the Central Zone and is under investigation.
Strang added that the province was making a new recommendation for travelers.
“Since the majority of our cases are related to travel outside of Atlantic Canada, we’ve added another layer of protection by strongly recommending testing for travelers who still have to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in the province.”
There are now 41 active infections across the province.
