Graduation ceremonies are going ahead this year.
At Tuesday’s COVID-19 update, Premier Iain Rankin announced high schools are releasing students a week early to make time for more, smaller COVID-19 safe ceremonies.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang says Public Health is working with the Department of Education to plan modified ceremonies to meet public health guidelines.
“The education system is focusing on graduation,” he says. “Recognition of educational achievement.”
Dr. Strang says that doesn’t include proms.
He says it’s up to community groups to plan prom celebrations, within COVID-19 restrictions.
“If they want to have a larger prom, more than ten, then it has to be recognized business or organisation that takes on the responsibility, and the accountability, of hosting that in a way that follows public health requirements.”
Meantime, Rankin announced border restrictions are going back in place for travellers from New Brunswick, meaning anyone coming from that province, or back to our province from NB, must self isolate for 14 days.
The Department of Health and Wellness reported six new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, all travel related, two in Central Zone, three in Western Zone, and one in Eastern Zone.
Provincial data shows 45 active infections remain in the province.
