The pandemic’s out-of-control devastation halfway across the world has rippled all the way to the Quad Counties.
Yogesh Ghore is with the Coady International Institute at StFX in Antigonish.
Ghore tells The Hawk more than 1,000 Coady graduates live in India, the epicentre of a massive COVID-19 outbreak.
“We are hearing from them,” he says. “Many are sick, hospitalized, and then some passed away- it’s very, very concerning.”
Ghore says members of the organizations they work with have been impacted as well.
He says that includes reps with the Self-Employed Women’s Association in India.
“We just heard from their director that one of their senior members actually died because of COVID, (and) one of the team members that I work very, very closely with (is) on a ventilator right now,” he says. “When you hear this, it impacts you and you feel the feeling of helplessness.”
Ghore says one of his Coady colleagues in India is fighting a COVID-19 infection as well.
He says everyone with connections in India is impacted.
