RCMP have issued fines to a business that pretended to be closed and a church that refused to end a gathering.
At 11:15 a.m. yesterday King’s District RCMP were told about a faith based gathering at a church in Weston. After arriving, and determining the service was about the start, police directed the gathering to stop.
The group decided to continue and police issued fines to 26 people and the organization under the Health Protection Act for having a faith gathering contrary to public health restrictions. 13 males and 13 females were fined an amount of $2,442.00. The organization was fined $11,622.50.
This wasn’t RCMP’s first time at the church, they responded to a similar complaint on May second. Only a warning was issued at that time because restrictions had only recently been changed to no longer allow faith based gatherings. The organization was warned at the time that they could face fines if they continued to hold gatherings.
Police also fined a business in Windsor on May sixth for violating the Health Protection Act.
At 2:15 p.m. RCMP were told that a personal service business was operating against public health restrictions. After investigating they found the owner had gone to great lengths to appear that she was closed. The business was charged for operating against public health restrictions and was fined $11,622.50.
The RCMP are reminding people to follow all public health orders and municipal bylaws.
