Antigonish Co.‘s warden says local small business owners are feeling the impact of the latest COVID-19 shutdown.
Owen McCarron says it’s been tough for business owners since the start of the pandemic.
After May’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night, McCarron said this latest round of restrictions is creating concern.
“They’re hanging on, there’s no question, and they’ve been doing a lot of things and working hard to hang on,” he said. “If we can just get through this next little period, we get the vaccinations rolling out and get things back to a bit of normal, we’re hopeful that the businesses will be able to survive.”
McCarron said it’s important to help small business owners in our area.
He said they’ll need our help on the other side.
“The important thing is, once we get beyond this and things get back to some sense of normal, that people actually support local businesses,” he said. “We (need to) think about businesses that struggled in our community.”
McCarron said provincial officials have recently announced some support in terms of funding.
He said he hopes that brings a bit of relief to local business owners.
