An air charter service based in the Quad Counties has made its maiden flight.
AxAir Aviation Inc. is owned by Celtic Air Services, which operates the Allan J. MacEachen Regional Airport in Port Hastings.
David Morgan, the president of both companies, announced their first run in early May.
Morgan tells The Hawk the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled commercial air travel along the east coast.
“With the reduction in scheduled air service and the lack of direct connections, we think it’s a great time for folks to consider air charter as a way of doing business and getting back their time.”
Morgan says they hadn’t planned on a season stymied by the third wave, and the harsh travel restrictions that came along with it.
He says they’re currently focused on essential workers.
“Right now the key market is essential personnel- folks that need to travel for whatever reason that’s deemed essential, and getting them throughout the Maritimes,” he says. “Especially folks that don’t want their personnel exposed in airports and travelling with other people.”
Morgan says they’re planning for the future as well.
He says their long-term plan is to support the recovering tourism industry in the region, and generally make it easier to do long distance business from here once the pandemic is over.
