Nova Scotia Health is easing some visitor restrictions at hospitals beginning on Wednesday
The plan aligns with province’s phased in reopening.
The health authority says under Phase 1 two support people will now be permitted in intensive care units, for critically ill patients in the emergency department, and for labour and birth.
Phase 2 is set to be introduced on June 16th at the earliest. During that phase one support person will be allowed for all in-patients and patients in emergency departments. Three will be permitted at a time for palliative patients and others nearing the end of their lives.
The earliest date for Phase 3 is June 30th, which would allow two designated support people for inpatients and four visitors at a time for palliative patients and others nearing end-of-life.
Phase 4 will launch when the province hits that step in its reopening plan. Restrictions would ease to allow one designated support person for ambulatory appointments.
Nova Scotia Health restricted the number of visitors in May to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the third wave.
