There’s still no word on when the borders between Canada and the United States will open.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed questions from the media yesterday, stating a date has yet to be decided, “We are still very much still working both with medical professionals, with epidemiological experts, and with partners in the United States. When there are announcements to make, you can be sure we will be making them.”
Trudeau says there are stages that they must respect to be able to do this safely, but they must be taken at the right time.
He adds the decisions will also be based on when people have both doses of the vaccine, and will be based on science, “Easing of restrictions will be focused on Canadians who are fully vaccinated. Because that is what science dictates, particularly when it comes to some of the new variants of concern, like the Delta variant.”
An update is expected to come on June 21st.
“There is still work that needs to be done to get people vaccinated. We are continuing to encourage people to get vaccinated while understanding that there are going to be stages that will make it possible to ease the rules in the coming weeks and months. There will be announcements to make in due course,” Trudeau says.
