School is starting next week and not only is the cost of living high in Nova Scotia, so is the cost of going to school.
According to an advocacy group, Nova Scotian University students on average, pay more for tuition than the rest of the country and it’s increasing at a faster rate.
Students Nova Scotia says the average tuition in Canada is just over $6,800 per year, where in our province, it’s just over $9,300.
As for international students, the group says, there’s no tuition regulation, which causes uncertainty. Students Nova Scotia says tuition for foreign students rose in Nova Scotia to 19.8% over the past five years to about $21,224.
As for textbooks, the Government of Canada suggests undergrads could pay between $800 and $1,000.
This comes as students deal with higher rent prices. The average two-bedroom apartment in Halifax is now over $2,000 while for just one-bedroom, the average rate is about $1,700.
