Premier Tim Houston responds to a question in the Nova Scotia legislature on October 19, 2022.
Premier Tim Houston has apologized for comments he made characterizing Cape Breton’s use of a state of emergency as a “PR issue” following the historic snowfall in Nova Scotia.
In a social media post, Houston says “The situation across certain regions of our Province is horrific.”
He says the province’s complete focus is on digging people out and every possible resource is being put into this effort.
Houston says he made “some unfortunate comments that took the conversation away from the important snow removal efforts that are happening.”
He says his intention was “just to make the public aware that resources were coming regardless of a state of emergency being in effect or not.”
Houston says the provincial government continues to work with municipalities and the federal government to clear the snow.
