N.S. funds projects to reduce childhood obesity

The province is funding initiatives to help combat childhood obesity.

Acadia University, Upward Mobility Kitchens East in Halifax and the Wasopopa’q First Nation are getting a combined $1 million through the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Project.

Health Minister Michelle Thompson says helping young people establish healthy eating habits will reduce the burden on our healthcare system.

The First Nation is getting $400,000 to create an outdoor structure for traditional food sourcing.

The kitchen at The Nook on Gottingen Street will receive over $334,000 for youth-focused cooking classes and education.

The university got over $320,000 for a new greenhouse to support a farm-to-school program.
