The province will try to stop power rates from increasing.
Premier Tim Houston says they’re planning to intervene in Nova Scotia Power’s rate application.
He made the comment after cabinet Thursday, when asked about ways they’re helping those with low-incomes.
“We reject Nova Scotia Power’s request, and we’re planning to intervene. It’s an out of touch time for that type of increase. We will continue to look to support Nova Scotians across the spectrum,” said Houston.
Nova Scotia Power says they filed for a 3.9 per cent residential rate increase each of the next two years to the Nova Scotia Energy Board on Thursday.
They say it comes after months of consultations, and it will generate revenue required to meet the needs of customers.
Houston says it’s clear they need to address the grid, and look for cheaper power options.
