National British Home Child Day is being proclaimed in Inverness County.
Warden Bonnie MacIssac states that September 28 will recognize the one hundred thousand children sent to Canada from across the UK.
They emigrated to Canada between the 19th century to the 1970s.
Many of these children became farm workers and domestic help.
Twenty-five thousand of them fought in World Wars one and two as Canadian soldiers.
“Over four million Canadians are direct descendants of these British Home Children residing across Canada,” says MacIssac.
It is estimated that 300 of the children settled between Inverness and Victoria counties, with a distinct amount located in Whycocomagh and surrounding area.
