Antigonish Community Transit is excited that their funding was saved from proposed provincial budget cuts.
General Manager, Richie Connors says getting that 20 per cent back, which equals $43,000, is big news.
“We can breathe a little easier about that, you know, that we don’t have to park vehicles and don’t have to cut down on the services residents of Antigonish Town and County have come to know that we do,” explained Connors.
They offer a fixed bus route service that’s a one-hour loop in the Town of Antigonish on Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Their Book-A-Ride service is door-to-door in the County of Antigonish and can also take riders to healthcare facilities from Sydney to Halifax on Mondays to Fridays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
He expressed that their transit service gives independence for people to get to work, medical appointments, groceries and social outings with family and friends.
Their passengers include seniors, adults, students, children and individuals in wheelchairs or with mobility challenges.
“Just a huge thank you to everyone who voiced those concerns and expressed how important a part of our community Antigonish Community Transit is at such a difficult time with such a difficult announcement. So, thank you to everyone who did that,” Connors stated.
He credits the community support for their operational funding being restored.
To book a ride, you can call their dispatcher on Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 902-867-0411.
