
Several of our local athletes earned medals on the second day of competition at the Special Olympics Canada 2018 Summer Games.
Four athletes from the Quad Counties earned medals in athletics.
Matthew Anderson of Antigonish won gold in the M1 standing long jump event and the 200m race, Antigonish’s Roslyn Samson finished first in the 200m race, Carey Clannon of Arichat won bronze in the 200m race and the M1 standing long jump event, and Antigonish’s Nicole Roberts finished third in the 200m race.
Elizabeth Abler of Antigonish won gold in the 25m backstroke, her second gold medal of the Games after she finished first in her 50m freestyle swimming event Wednesday; Heatherton’s Jessica Gillis earned bronze in the 25-metre fly, her second bronze after a third-place finish in 50m backstroke event Wednesday.
Antigonish golfer Ryan Kearney shot a second-round 57 at the Antigonish Golf and Country Club.
