The mayor of Mulgrave says they officially have ownership of tennis courts in the town.
Ralph Hadley says the deal with their counterparts with the Diocese of Antigonish formally closed Jan. 23.
After February’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Hadley said the sale was a long time coming.
“It took a number of years with the Diocese (of) Antigonish to finally get this property in our hands- we’ve been after them for the last seven or eight years trying to get that land,” he said. “I guess it took a while to get it surveyed and try to find what they owned and what we owned.”
Hadley said the cost was in the $11,000-$12,000 range.
He said the addition is great for the town.
“It’s a big plus for our recreation, it’s a great piece of property- we’ve got nice tennis courts and also (the) multi-purpose court on it,” he said. “We spent quite a bit of money the last number of years on it- it’s a good facility.”
Town officials had been leasing the land from their diocese counterparts in the years leading up to the sale.
