It’s exciting times for the Cape Breton West Islanders!
It’s an exciting weekend where they could potentially have not one… not two… not three (Ok you get the point.)
Six players from the 2018-2019 roster could get drafted into the QMJHL tomorrow (June 8th) in Quebec City!

Looking at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Central Scouting list they have the projections for the draft going like this.
Goalie Kenzie MacPhail is ranked to be selected between the sixth and eighth rounds.
He’s also ranked as the highest Cape Breton born player in this years QMJHL Draft.
Forward Sam Grant is expected to be drafted in between rounds 9-12.
Forwards Daniel Gillis, Dave Matthews and Lewis Taylor and defenseman Neil MacLean are listed to be picked after round 12.

The Cape Breton West Islanders are only two years removed from their Telus Cup victory in 2017!
Since then there’s been quite a few Cape Breton West alumni making there name in the QMJHL.
Logan Chisholm captured the Memorial Cup in 2018 with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Ryan MacLellan won the Memorial Cup last month in Halifax with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Colten Ellis is looking to make history as being the first Cape Breton West Islanders player to be drafted into the NHL later on this month and that’s just to name a few!

I know i’ll be keeping a close eye on all the local hockey players this weekend and we’ll keep you updated right here on our website at 1015thehawk.com.
From all the Hawk staff and the Quad Counties we wish these boys the best of luck in the upcoming QMJHL Draft!
