The province has announced its first case of COVID-19 not linked to travel or contact with a previously reported case.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Robert Strang announced it, and four other new cases, at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
Dr. Strang said they can’t confirm if this is the province’s first case from community spread, but they are preparing for it
“All that means is that we have to continue our efforts, and when we have a circumstance like that public health would be very aggressively following up that individual trying understand where they might have been exposed,” he said. “If we start to see that within a community, we’re looking at ways we could, then, aggressively bring in enhanced testing.”
Strang said they’re still investigating the source of this case but suspect a Saint Patrick’s Day gathering in Halifax.
He said there are now 73 total reported cases in the Province.
