Antigonish‘s mayor is throwing her hat back in the ring.
Laurie Boucher says she will be running in the upcoming October municipal elections, but she needs to know what the rules will be before serious campaigning can start.
Boucher tells The Hawk it won’t be like any other campaign.
“One of the big differences (in 2020) is that most of the events that candidates would attend are not happening.”
Boucher, who was first elected to council in 2012 and became mayor in 2016, says social media is going to be more important than ever.
She says candidates are going to have to adapt.
“You have to be creative in how you make your name known,” she says. “You have to be able to think outside the box to make connections with the people.”
Boucher says the most important thing in this campaign is going to be protecting the health and safety of everyone.
She says her campaign will follow whatever guidelines are put in place by officials with the provincial government.
