A local leadership school for women is going ahead soon.
The Cape Breton/Unama’ki/Strait Leadership School for Women will look a little different, with physical distancing measures and the option to participate online.
Organizer, and Port Hawkesbury Mayor, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton tells The Hawk Morning Show their goal remains the same; to allow participants to network with 25 women leaders from across Cape Breton and the Strait Area.
“To inspire women to leadership,” she says. “It’s very important that women and girls can see themselves in their community leaders.”
Chisholm-Beaton says there will be sessions on municipal and band government.
She says the 25 women in leadership will have a chance to mentor women who are looking to community leadership roles.
“Our women, some who are elected, and some who are strong advocates in their community,” she says. “Putting on a school like this. It’s very, very essential that women and girls are able to see themselves in their leaders.”
After it was delayed because of COVID-19, the Leadership School for Women is now set for August 21-22.
