Clinics offered for missed school vaccinations
Grade seven students hadn’t gotten their vaccinations when COVID-19 cut the school year short.
Randy Delorey, the province’s health minister and the MLA for Antigonish, says provincial officials are offering vaccination clinics for students who missed them.
Delorey tells The Hawk there are clinics set up across the province.
“There are number of vaccinations and boosters scheduled for children in what would be their grade seven year of study,” he says. “Obviously with COVID-19, our schools weren’t open this spring, so the vaccination clinics weren’t able to be run.”
Delorey says it’s important children receive these vaccinations.
He says COVID-19 has shown the importance of vaccinations.
“The vaccinations that public health has identified and funds through the public health system are ones that have been identified to protect the population,” he says. “The coronavirus has drawn the public’s attention to the dangers when a population does not have an immunity to particular diseases.”
Delorey says you can call your local public heath office to schedule an appointment and get your child their missed vaccination.
