The mayor of Antigonish says she’s excited for the next four years.
Laurie Boucher was acclaimed for a second term as mayor in Saturday’s municipal elections.
She has a very familiar council behind her, with five of the six incumbents being re-elected; the only new face has previous council experience.
After October’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Boucher said Sean Cameron, who replaces Jack MacPherson, isn’t your typical newcomer.
“Sean Cameron brings lots of experience to the table- he has 16 years experience at council and has sat on every committee that we have in the town,” she said. “He’s going to bring a wealth of knowledge to the table.”
Cameron ran against Boucher- and lost- for the mayor’s chair in 2016.
Boucher said their main priority for the next term is to keep moving the town forward.
“We want to improve our infrastructure, and improve services as well, where we can,” she said. “We do have the goal of greening our environment and reducing our carbon footprint.”
Boucher said they also want to make Antigonish a destination by bringing more events to the area.
She said they’ve proven they can host national events in the region, and they want to continue to do so.
