The province has announced the guidelines they’ll follow for vaccine deployment.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang says they expect a very small amount of vaccine in mid-December, then a small amount per week for 12 weeks starting in January.
Doctor Strang says they will prioritize vaccinations based on need.
“Long-term care residents and staff, frontline healthcare workers who are at highest risk through providing direct care to COVID patients, and older adults, those who are at the highest risk of illness and even death,” he says. “Starting with those who are 80 plus, then moving to 75 and up, and then 70 to 75.”
Doctor Strang announced 16 new cases of COVID-19 Friday: 12 Central Zone cases, including a school-based case reported Thursday and another in Park West School Friday, three Northern Zone cases and one Western Zone case.
He reported 118 active infections total.
Doctor Strang also says the partial lockdown in Halifax has been extended until at least December 16.
The province also announced seven possible COVID-19 exposure locations.
