An organizer of charity that gives Christmas dinners to families in need says COVID-19 hasn’t slowed them down.
Seasonal Services organizer Joe Praught says they will still be delivering their food boxes around Port Hawkesbury.
Praught tells The Hawk they try to put in everything you would normally have at Christmas time.
“We start with a turkey, we go with potatoes, carrots, turnips, apples, oranges, stuffing, canned cranberry, a bottle of juice, a loaf of bread, a bottle of milk, candies.”
Praught says they start collecting donations from local businesses, churches, and individuals in October.
He says it is important.
“This is a very special time of year, and of course any time of year everybody should have enough food on the table, but we would really like to make sure that someone who doesn’t quite have enough at Christmastime has a nice, really nice, complete Christmas dinner.”
He says volunteers pack the boxes Saturday and even more will deliver them early Sunday morning.
