Police are still searching for a man who has been on the run near a remote northern Inverness Co. community for over 48 hours.
RCMP say 34-year-old Perry MacKinnon fled into the woods near Meat Cove with a firearm late Monday morning.
Public Information Officer Mark Skinner tells The Hawk they are growing concerned for his safety.
“We don’t expect he was dressed appropriately for weather conditions,” he says. “We’re hoping for, obviously, a speedy and safe resolution, both for police and for MacKinnon.”
Skinner says the man was last seen in a camo jacket and blue track pants.
He says MacKinnon is from the area, so he has an advantage in that respect.
“It would be assumed that he has a good, local knowledge of the area, and, likely, the terrain he’s in.”
Skinner says they have numbers and technology on their side, with a heavy police presence and an infrared-equipped helicopter.
