One new case of COVID-19 is being reported in Nova Scotia.
The case is in Northern Zone and is a close contact of a previously reported case.
Unrelated to the case announced on Tuesday, two more cases of the UK variant and five more cases of the South African variant have been identified in the province.
Two cases with the UK variant were discovered in the Western and Central Zones with one case being resolved and the other is self-isolating.
Five cases in the Central Zone have been linked to the South African variant with one of those cases being resolved and the four others are self isolating.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Doctor Robert Strang says there is no evidence of community spread among the variant cases and with low cases the past few days, restrictions could be lifted much earlier than previously announced.
“If the pattern continues we may be in a position to lift restrictions much earlier than March 26 and we’ll have more to say about this on Friday,” Strang said.
Meantime, roughly 20,000 people have been tested at pop up site since Friday. Strang says that’s more people tested over a couple of days than during the entire H1N1 pandemic in 2009.
In total, Nova Scotia has 29 active cases of COVID-19.
