The province’s Health and Wellness Minister is urging Nova Scotians to get tested for COVID-19.
Zach Churchill says he visited a rapid testing site in Halifax yesterday, and to not let long lines intimidate you, as wait times are usually short.
He says it’s important, whether or not you’re experiencing symptoms.
“I’ve been making it a priority for myself to get an asymptomatic test at least every two weeks. This is one of the best things we can do, it helps us stay ahead of the virus and respond appropriately.”
Churchill says rapid testing has been a focus more so in Central Zone lately.
As far as vaccinations go, Churchill says the province is still on track to have first doses into arms by the end of June.
As of today, about 200,000 people in the province have been vaccinated.
Churchill says recent polling indicates rural males between the ages of 18 and 40 are hesitant about getting vaccinated.
He says the new variants of COVID-19 are affecting young people more severely.
“Although the mortality rate isn’t very high among young people, there can be long lasting health effects in your lungs and other organs of your body as a result of getting the coronavirus.”
Churchill says the smart thing to do to protect yourself and loved ones is to get vaccinated.
