Preventing future outbreaks through rapid testing was discussed during the Federal COVID update.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau believes rapid tests are crucial in slowing the spread of COVID-19, as they detect asymptomatic cases that would have remained hidden otherwise.
“Supporting businesses, organizations, and the public sector in accessing rapid tests is key to identifying and isolating cases, and therefore reducing the risk of further outbreaks.” said Trudeau.
More than 26-million rapid tests have been administered across the province.
Contact tracing, which has been stressed as a crucial way to prevent the virus spread, appears to be less effective as case counts grow, according to Chief Public Health Officer Theresa Tam.
“It is very difficult for public health to be tracing contacts when there is hundreds of thousands of cases in any jurisdiction.”
